As I’m sure you know by now, Nicki Minaj felt snubbed for not being nominated for video of the year at the VMAs. She complained that it was because her “Anaconda” video didn’t celebrate typical women’s bodies. Instead portraying a thicker, bootylicious version. She tweeted, “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.”
Taylor Swift felt personally attacked by the comment and said she did nothing but support her throughout her career. But Nicki Minaj explained she wasn’t talking about Swift. T. Swift later apologized.
But Miley Cyrus stepped in and explained to the New York Times that she felt Minaj came from a place of anger:
"Jealousy does the opposite of what you want it to... If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it.
What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love."
Not one to back down, Minaj caught Cyrus off guard and asked her about her comments LIVE ON STAGE. It was intense.
